Steve's Stratocaster

Here's one for the guitar geeks. Steve's Strat (the off-white one with the black scratchplate that you can see on the Tube appearance and hear on all their recordings up until about the COJ time, when he switched to the Ibanez brand) is now owned by Ed O'Brien from Radiohead. Good to see that it has...

I agree with you about much of the earlier material, there are many redeeming features about much of it and without an official history and an explanation why these songs were disowned I think there is always going to be speculation about the reasons why. The audio quality of the first two singles i...

Saw them at the Penny Farthing supporting the 20 Flight Rockers (who had Mark Laff on drums). I though the singer was called Rob Strachan? ...fancied himself a bit. Max was definitely on vocals when I saw them at the Poly (possibly supporting either Zodiac Mindwarp or Beki and the Bombshells). When...

While I was in the attic...

I located a cassette by a band called Flower Walk. This was Re (PD's first guitarist), Gary and Julien who were Chatshow's first rhythm section and a chap called Max on vocals. The same Max who wrote the lyrics for Propaganda. The tracks are listed on the case being Shadowtalk, War, Nothing Matters ...

Well its been out for a while now but I still can't stop listening to it. Farm by Dinosaur Jr is a cracking return to form. J Mascis is a genius. I'm rediscovering Loop's A Gilded Eternity and also enjoying the limited edition live bootleg of the band Edizione Limitata di 1000 (which can be download...

The real epitome of the 80's for me is Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing, by Discharge. Not much says more about that threat of 80's annihilation and that teenager spotty anger and testoserone frustration that i guess most of us had at that time. And yes, i can still listen to that and cant fa...

Sacrosanct- John Fryer vs Conny Plank

I've been prompted to compare these two versions of the song by Dave The Fish who, over in another thread- http://companyofjustice.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1629#1629 takes issue with my opinion of Fryer's production of the 'Promised Land' era material and suggests that the earlier version of 'Sacro...

Hello Dave, Re: Promised Land/John Fryer. In comparison to the quality of production that most bands on independent labels had at the time, I guess it isn?t that badly produced. Play Dead were head and shoulders above most other bands at the time though and as I had seen the band live a whole shedlo...

Play Dead, my opinion. Warning- long post...

This post is only made possible with huge amounts of hindsight. Blimey, the 1980s were a long time ago. Not only in actual time span but financially, socially, politically and culturally they seem to have happened hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago. It was almost a different world. Everyone s...
