Welcome to companyofjustice.com, the official website of Play Dead.

Play Dead were a British post-punk band, formed in Oxfordshire during 1980. In the course of a five year career, the band released three full length albums, one six track mini album and an in-concert film plus numerous 7” and 12” singles.

Play Dead also toured extensively in the UK and Europe, which included support slots with UK Decay, Killing Joke and The Cult, among many others. The band also recorded three radio sessions for the BBC’s legendary late night DJ John Peel and appeared on national TV, performing live on music show ‘The Tube’ in December 1984. Despite these achievements, they were unable to make a major breakthrough and eventually went their separate ways in early 1986. A more detailed history of the band can be found here.

This website was established in 2005, initially as a fan site, as Play Dead had no presence online. This situation changed in 2011 when the site was formally handed over to the band for development as an official outlet. As Play Dead are no longer active- and have no current intention to reform- this site acts as both an archive of photographic, audio and video material and a source of information that has been vetted and approved. We are always keen to hear from anyone out there who has any useful material (live photos of the band are particularly rare) and we would be grateful if you would get in touch. Credits for anything used are always given.

Thank you for your interest in Play Dead. If you’d like to continue your support, items from the band’s back catalogue are being reissued and other merchandise is also available, see the menu above for more details.
