The original version of this song was released on 7″ and 12″ single in February 1985 and a new version was later recorded for the Company Of Justice album. The earlier version was included on both the 1992 Resurrection collection and the 2007 From The Promised Land re-issue. The second version appears on the original version of Company Of Justice, the 1993 CD reissue, the 2015 vinyl reissue and the 2023 official compilation The Collection. Both versions are included on the Complete Works box set.
You starve yourself on darkness
Where life holds no surprise
The years crawl across your face
As pain becomes your bride
Did the arrow fall too quickly?
Were the ropes and chains too tight?
She’s not a care for no man
She sleeps alone tonight
You’re so very sacred
You’re so very sacred
Don’t let your life be tragedy
It’s a poor man’s stomping ground
Just stop yourself from sinking
And listen to the sound
Does confusion have a downfall
When reason’s put to rest?
Don’t slip into indifference
When faith is put to test
You’re so very sacred
You’re so very sacred
Cornered by the four winds
Barefaced from the start
I can’t show you Heaven
To pull those gates apart
But take my hand and climb up
And we’ll let the wind blow through
Be hunters in the sea of trade
Your world waits there for you
You’re so very sacred
You’re so very sacred
Sacred
