I took the love in the young boy’s eyes
Sombre were the eyes of the future
The kind of feeling so hard to define
Embracing both beauty and corruption
Testaments to greed and belief
We’re sitting in the mouth of tonight
The web of conquest lay all around
Mere witnesses chosen by birthright
We were witnesses
Mere witnesses
Watching on
There’s talk of life and the art of darkness
Promises written in water
Here stands a man who deserves to be heard
Striving for the pulse of direction
He holds the spark so light up your torch
Once carried by the hands of discretion
His strength was drawn from the fire within
Kept burning by his faith in redemption
We were witnesses
Mere witnesses
Watching on
Here lies the spark so light up your touch
Now carried by this form of discretion
Our strength was drawn from the fire within
Kept burning by our faith in completion
We were witnesses
Mere witnesses
Watching on
And on and on and on and on and on
We’re watching on
