Play Dead and all our friends past and present are saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and colleague Greg Brooks.
Both Rob and Wiff had known and been friends with Greg and all his family for many years, even before Play Dead. You couldn’t really not know Greg if you lived in Banbury, for he was always a ‘Big Character’ in town.
When Play Dead started moving forward, Greg regularly helped out at gigs. At some point the band decided to spend a bit of money on lights and a small console which could be used at shows. As a consequence someone was needed to set up, operate and pack it away every night. Greg knew the bands music well and was really into having a part to play, so he seemed an obvious choice as a Lighting Designer. From then on he did lights for almost all the band’s shows, including the ‘Into The Fire’ show and video, which for him was quite a huge project, that he certainly mastered and did a great job.
After Play Dead’s demise, Greg stayed in the live music world, crewing for Stage Miracles before later running his own crew in and out of Brighton.
Greg always remained good friends with Rob and Wiff, seeing each other regularly at gatherings in Brighton, which became his home town. where he was also, always, a ‘BIG CHARACTER’.
We’d all like to send our condolences and sympathies to Greg’s family and friends at this sad time.
Such a loss to us all.
